The Invisible Attributes that Point to a Creator

There is a lot of visible evidence that proves the existence of a Creator, like why the Earth is positioned in such a perfect manner to allow life on earth, or the human body, which is a miracle in itself to be made the way it is. Those examples are things that can be seen. What about the invisible things that cannot be seen or quantified though? The invisible things that, without it,  we would just be living beings with no purpose or no connection with the world in which we live. Such things that should be considered which point us to an invisible Creator are love, joy, and morality.

Love is such a cliché thing that we often take it for granted, but without it, our lives would be pointless. We wouldn’t have anything to live for without the love for our family, job, others, and even for ourselves. The thought that we were just formed from a single atom does not explain where love comes from because it's intangible yet so significant and relevant to everything we do and believe. Love drives our very being day to day, our thoughts and actions are all driven based on what we love and treasure in this life. That invisible yet significant feeling proves that something outside of what we see exists. Where did this feeling come from if not from a Being whose very nature is love? Most would say though we’re evolved beings and through evolution, we learned to love those we are connected to so that we can survive. Still, what about the fact that we love ones not connected to our survival such as those suffering, homeless or sick children, or even our pets who have absolutely no bearing on our existence? Although we can discuss love which should be a proving factor to point to a God there is also another factor like joy that points to something greater than ourselves.

Joy is unexplainable because joy unlike happiness, isn't impacted by what is going on around you or to you. There is great joy in being a Christian and I know there are some Christians who can go through all types of situations including loss of loved ones or jobs and sicknesses and yet still have joy. When you have joy, that feeling trumps all of the trials and tribulations that you may face. It is often misunderstood that when someone has joy, it’s because they do not care about what’s going on but that's not the case. Having joy is a sign of strength, to be able to go through Hell on Earth but still maintain a smile on your face because you have hope and faith in something greater than you which you cannot see is a character trait that should be celebrated and admired. The joy that we have as Christians is the same joy that Jesus had when facing the reality of dying on the cross. It says in scripture, “For the joy set before him he endured the cross,” (Hebrews 12:2). Jesus knew there was a greater purpose that His pain and suffering could not compare to and that’s the same faith that we have as Christians when we suffer in this life. Not only do love and joy point to a Creator but so does morality which we all share.

The reason why I say we all share morality as people is because everyone knows right from wrong whether we live by it or not. When someone commits a crime we don’t say, “Man, I wonder if they knew it was wrong to kill that person or if they knew they shouldn’t have abused their child or loved one?” The reason why we don’t ask those types of questions is because generally speaking people know right from wrong and justice is correcting the wrongs done by people who knew better. The question to be asked is “Where did this moral law come from if not from a Creator of morality?” The God of the Bible points to where this moral compass that everyone shares can be found, in a God that treasures love over hate, truth over lies, wisdom over foolishness, and giving rather than receiving. This is where we find the truth behind where our laws of morality come from.

You cannot measure nor contain love, joy, or morality. They cannot be held with our human hands, yet it is what makes us all human. The love we share for ourselves and those around us, the joy that we have in Christ despite what we go through, and the morality that we all share as people, all point to a Creator. Although there is so much more that points to God, I would say these invisible attributes should be enough to turn one from non-belief to belief in someone greater, even if He cannot be seen or beheld with our natural eyes.
